Assange’s fate hangs in the balance as Ecuadorian election looms
Sunday’s election could see the Wikileaks founder evicted from London embassy
Late polling in the Ecuadorian presidential election may favor Julian Assange, as candidate Lenín Moreno has indicated the Wikileaks founder would be welcome to stay in the embassy he’s occupied since 2012. Moreno’s opponent Guillermo Lasso has stated otherwise, citing the burdensome cost to the Ecuadorian people, and perhaps also the political cost of housing the publisher. If elected, Lasso states Assange would have 30 days to vacate the embassy. As Sunday approaches, however, the latest polling has Moreno with a 5% lead.
